White loo roll isn't natural!

Why is Bamboo Bobbi toilet paper brown?

Bamboo Bobbi is a natural light brown colour, instead of the bright white toilet paper you are probably used to.

The simple reason is that that's the natural colour of bamboo fibres. At Bamboo Bobbi, we don't bleach our toilet rolls to make them look white. We leave them as nature intended. White toilet paper is the result of bleaching wood pulp to make it look clean.

While modern bleaching processes are generally considered safe, the process can leave behind chemical byproducts called dioxins, which are linked to skin irritation and hormone disruption.

Bleaching the pulp doesn’t make the toilet paper softer, stronger or cleaner; it simply makes it white, because that's what we have come to expect.

Recycled paper isn’t the answer either. They often contain trace amounts of Bisphenol A (BPA) and Bisphenol S (BPS). This contamination happens when till receipts and shipping labels paper are accidentally mixed into the paper recycling stream.

At Bamboo Bobbi, we'd rather keep things simple.

Our toilet rolls are made from 100% FSC-certified bamboo and remain their natural colour, without unnecessary bleaching.

Is brown toilet paper clean?

Absolutely. The colour of toilet paper has nothing to do with how hygienic it is.

Many people tell us they notice the colour for the first day or two, then completely forget about it.

What about water?

Bleaching toilet paper increases the amount of water that’s needed during manufacturing. Bleaching chemicals and water are added to the liquid pulp, and it’s washed repeatedly to get rid of the brown pigment and bring it up to a bright white shade. We don’t think all the extra water and processing is worth it for something that’s designed to be flushed away. By not bleaching our bamboo fibres, we're avoiding an extra manufacturing process that's there purely for appearance. We'd rather focus on creating a premium toilet roll that's soft, durable and kinder to the planet.

It's part of the same thinking that means we also: Don't individually wrap every toilet roll. Don't add unnecessary dyes or perfumes. Use fast-growing bamboo instead of trees. Focus on quality rather than gimmicks.

Does natural bamboo toilet paper feel different?

Some people assume that because bamboo toilet paper isn't white, it must feel rough or recycled. In reality, bamboo fibres are naturally soft, which is why so many customers are surprised by just how luxurious our toilet rolls feel. You don't need bleaching to make great toilet paper; you just need great-quality bamboo.

Why choose natural bamboo toilet paper?

Choosing bamboo toilet paper isn't just about what you're buying; it's about how it's made. Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on Earth, making it a more renewable alternative to virgin tree pulp. By leaving the fibres their natural colour, we're keeping the manufacturing process simpler and letting the bamboo speak for itself.

Every roll helps someone else too.

There's one more reason our toilet rolls are different. Bamboo Bobbi isn't just another eco-toilet roll company.  We're a not-for-profit, which means 100% of our profits help support UK food banks.

So when you choose Bamboo Bobbi, you're not only making a more sustainable choice - you’re helping people at the same time. That's far better than bright white paper.

Bamboo Bobbi toilet roll isn't white because we've chosen to keep it natural.

No unnecessary bleaching. No pretending bamboo is something it isn't. Just soft, strong, sustainable toilet paper that's made from bamboo and made to do a little good every time you use it.
